Workshop on Environmental Conservation

Hong Duc University cooperates with Project Central and Stone Lion Puppet Theater to organize workshop “Hands Across the Waters: Keeping a Clean Environment through Art and Green Schools” At Hong Duc University

 1.   Reasons for organizing the workshop

The purpose of this workshop is to encourage regional cooperation and capacity building with regard to the environment. This project will focus on keeping a clean environment for people and wildlife by providing the training to current teachers and teachers-in-training (pre-service teachers) to teach environmental sustainability practices through art and deliver that curriculum to pre-school, elementary-, and high school-aged students.GreenSchools environmental education activities focused on littering, gardening, composting, and clean water will be utilized. Green Schools activities prepare students to become leaders and citizens who understand how the natural world works, see the patterns that connect human activities to nature, and have the knowledge, values, and skills to act effectively on that understanding (www.ecoliteracy.org).

2.   Workshop title: “Hands Across the Waters: Keeping a Clean Environment through Art and Green Schools”

3.   Objectives of the workshop:

Increasing the environmental awareness and stewardship, encouraging the critical thinking, and enhancing citizens’s responsibility,  starting with the youngest in society by actively involving them in the design and the making of environmental art and Green Schools through an art and Green School model.

4.   Contents

-Providing training to current teachers and teachers-in-training (pre-service teachers) on teaching environmental sustainability practices through art and delivering that curriculum to pre-school, elementary-, and high school-aged students.

- Defining how to integrate the art and Green Schools activities into the current curriculum in Vietnam’s schools through discussion with invited participants.

-A puppet event organized by the workshop to share what was learned during the workshop with the community and raising awareness of the public about environmental issues.  

5.   Time and venue

-   Time frame: 6th – 10th March, 2017

-   Venue: Hong Duc University – at Main Campus – 565 QuangTrung, Dong Ve Ward, ThanhHoa City

-       From governmental departments (education & environment) of the province: 4

-       From Hong Duc University: 10

-       From selected schools in ThanhHoa Province (from pre-schools to high schools): 30
