Hong Duc University recaptulates the activities of science and technology; and of international cooperation in the academic year 2017 - 2018

On June 5^th, 2018, Hong Duc University held a conference to summarize the activities of science and technology; and of international cooperation in the academic year 2017 – 2018 in order to evaluate the outcomes and propose the directions and tasks in the year 2018-2019.

The conference were attended by Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuy - Deputy Director of Thanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology; Dr. Le Dinh Son - Chairman of Thanh Hoa Union of Science and Technology Associations; Senior Lieutenant.Tran Vu Long, Deputy Head of Immigration Management Division  and representatives of the Political Protection Devision, of the Thanh Hoa Cultural Security Devision; and of Department of Foreign Affairs of Thanh Hoa province. As for HDU, the conference participants consisted of Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh An - Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University; members of the standing committee of the Party Committee; Board of Rectors; Heads of Functional Units; Members of the Planning and Investment Council; Head of Science Research Department; Coordinators of Scientific research and of International Cooperation, main researchers of Scientific Research Projects, and faculty/staff rewarded by HDU for their science and technology and international cooperation achievements.

Conference chairs

The conference was chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Mai, Vice Rector; Head of Science and Technology Management Division and Head of International Cooperation Division. The conference recaped scientific and technological activities of the academic year 2017 – 2018 and set the specific directions and tasks of year 2018 – 2019. The report stated “in the academic year 2017-2018, the research activities and project implementation, S&T transfer have ceaselessly been strengthened to improve the training quality, which greatly contributes to the socio-economic development of Thanh Hoa province and the country as a whole.

The number of all-level scientific research projects have increased by 69 newly approved projects, of which there are 3 State level projects, 8 provincial projects, 1 project in the context of Thanh Hoa agricultural extension program and 48 scientific and technological projects at the grassroots level. Science research activities of young lecturers and students continue to be innovated so as to create a vibrant scientific research movement. Specifically, 136 research projects, including 85 university-level projects and 51 ministerial level projects, have contributed significantly to improving the quality of staff/faculty and the training of human resources for the variety of fields in Thanh Hoa province and neighboring provinces; paving the scientific evidences for the execution of policies and programs in support of local socio-economic development; positioning HDU’s prestige in the domestic and international science and technology research community. HDU’s research projects are practical and applicable in response to existing problems of local and neighbouring provinces.

Along with science and technology activities, the international cooperation of the University has always been seen as a major priority. More and more Units get actively involved in international cooperation activitites. The human resource training program for Lao PDR has greatly developed in both quantity and quality. Training and research programs in collaboration with foreign universities has been intensively consolidated and reaped the benefits such as the joint training programs in cooperation with the University of Zielona Gora, Poland;or Master in Business Administration in cooperation with the University of Soongsil, Korea, etc.

At the conference, attendees vigorously share information and experiences in order to propose solutions to improve the university’s science and technology quality, for example, scientific research in support of human resources training under the industrial revolution 4.0; Solutions to Lao student training; The advantages and drawbacks of Hong Duc University in activities of Science and technology and of international cooperation under the autonomy mechanism, etc.

Speaking at the conference, Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Tuy, Vice Director of Thanh Hoa Department of Science and Technology, highly appreciated the results achieved in the 2017-2018 academic year and HDU’s science and technology potentials. However, the University should actively promote such strengths in proposing high-level science and technology projects and tasks in order to attract available resources and accomplish scientific and technological/international cooperation programs with highest outcomes. As a result, It will be the biggest leverage for the socio-economic development of the province and the country as a whole.

Addressing at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh An, Secretary of the Party Committee, Rector of the University praised the achievements in the academic year 2017 - 2018. He also emphasized some tasks in years to come: it was needed to drastically reform the field of science and technology in response to fundamental innovative requirements and comprehensive education and training in the new period; to encourage and create favorable conditions for faculty/staff to participate in high-level projects and have articles published in domestic and international renowned journals; to improve the quality of scientific seminars, high-level workshops, expanding the scale of joint conferences and national/international conferences; to pay a proper attention to scientific research activities of students; to developing investment plans, S & T potentials which are helpful for the laboratories of the University; to be active in scientific and technological cooperation with domestic and foreign organizations. As for international relations, keep maintaining the key partnerships with foreign universities including Poland, USA, Germany, Korea, France who signed MOUs with HDU; improve the quality of Lao student training, proposing specific policies to attract Lao students to study at Hong Duc University; Highlighting the role of the faculties in the field of international relations; strive to make dramatic changes in science and technology and international cooperation to improve the quality of human resources training and make an important contribution to the socio-economic development in response to industrialization and modernization and international economic integration.

To acknowledge such encouraging contributions, HDU presented certificates of merit and reward to collectives and individuals who have achieved outstanding outcomes in their activities of science and technology in the academic year 2017-2018.

The conference closed up one year of continuous efforts of lecturers and students, simultaneously opening up new expectations in scientific research and international cooperation to boslter the development and increase the revenue for the University.
