The Faculty of Foreign Languages organizes monthly seminar on teaching and learning English from February to May 2018.

 The Schedule is as follows:

 - February:

Time: 14-16h Tuesday 28/02/2018

Place: 408-A5

Topic: Pronunciation

Main content: This workshop focuses on a variety of activities that promote student participation and kinesthetic learning techniques. Participants will look at some of the challenges presented when learning English, practice some interactive techniques, and then be able to use these techniques in their classrooms. Participants will look at some very basic activities that can be used to help students overcome difficulties with stress and pronunciation.

- March:

Topic: Speaking Activities

Main content: It’s important for students to practice speaking as much as possible in the classroom. In this lesson, participants will look at and analyze several different speaking activities to determine which are best. They will also look at ways they can create more opportunities for their students to speak in class.

 - April:

Time: 14-16h Tuesday 24/04/2018

Place: 408-A5

Topic: Teaching Multiple Levels

Main content: Unfortunately, all students in a class are not at the same level of comprehension. In this session, Participants will look at how they can make their activities specific enough for the higher-level student and broad enough for those students who might be lagging behind.

Topic: Keeping it simple

Main content:  

In this seminar participants will take a look at several different reading tasks and attempt to assess the different difficulty levels of each. Participants will then try to figure out ways to simplify and organize their tasks in order to maximize student success.

Biographical Information:

Kevin Gilman (M.A. ESL) has taught English to students in Argentina, Malawi, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam. He is currently teaching at Hồng Đức University through the US Department of State’s English Language Fellowship Program. 

 English Language Fellowship Program Information:

Through the English Language Fellow (EL Fellow) Program, highly qualified U.S. educators in the field of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) or Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) participate in 10-month-long fellowships at academic institutions throughout the world. The Program fosters mutual understanding, promotes English language learning and enhances English teaching capacity abroad. Through projects sponsored by U.S. embassies, EL Fellows share their professional expertise, hone their skills, gain international experience and learn about other cultures.  EL Fellows model and demonstrate up-to-date TEFL classroom practices that help foster thoughtful and responsible behavior in students and teachers of English.
