Launching Ceremony of Local University Club

On Friday afternoon, 22nd September, the local university club, under the supervision of the Vietnam Higher Education Association, held a launch ceremony at Hong Duc University in Thanh Hoa City. The ceremony was attended by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Xuan Nhi - Vice President of Association; Representatives from 24 local universities across the country; Representatives from University of Zielona Góra, Poland (UZG) and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, Thailand (RMUTT). It also warmly welcomed Representatives from Hong Duc University (HDU) including Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh An – HDU Rector, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Thi Mai – HDU Vice Rector and Leaders of relevant faculties and divisions .

            The local university club consists of 24 member local universities all over Vietnam. The club was established to bring together universities, faculties and renowned scientists in order to organize specialist activities in training and scientific research;

 To create joint volunteering communities for admission, curriculum and textbook innovation, experience & learning exchange, culture & sports exchange, etc;

To promote the prestige of Universities with advantages and support Universities with difficulties; to bolster Universities’ cooperation with enterprises and other institutions specializing in the fields of education, training, science and technology, etc;

To exploit the labor market and open up job opportunities for graduates. (break into multiple sentences)

Through the exchange activities and cooperative programs between members, the club will contribute to strengthening each University, provide support in academic activities and help increase autonomy capability.

At the launch ceremony, the leader representatives of the Vietnam Higher Education Association awarded the Club Provisional Chairman appointment to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh An - Rector of Hong Duc University. They also elected the first-term Executive Board of the Club, for the years 2017-2020, including seven member universities: HongDucUniversity, HaiPhongUniversity, HungVuongUniversity, Pham Van Dong University, TienGiangUniversity, ThuDauMotUniversity, TanTraoUniversity.

After the introduction of the Executive Committee, the local university club talked about a "Local University Development Strategy". Along with discussing the pros and cons of enrollment and university autonomy among local universities, the club also sought to define an effective development strategy with regards to competition and integration. There was also a friendly discussion about strategic development models presented by UZG and RMUTT on how to attract students, how work well with financial autonomy and how to earn high rankings in education. RMUTT showed its model of Center of Excellence which offered various services on research, science, technology, investment, leadership skills, etc, as one of the best ways to collect extra financial sources for the university development apart from Government’s support. The delegates exchanged, discussed and agreed on a number of specialist activities of the club in the time to come. Although due to time constraints, many of delegates’ concerns were not presented at the discussion, this was a right move for an upcoming successful local university conferences.
